A bridal chura set typically combines two types of bangles. The main red or ivory chura bangles are made from lightweight acrylic-based or plastic materials to keep them comfortable for long wear. Decorative bangles within the set are usually made on an alloy base with plated finishes, featuring kundan work, American Diamond (AD/CZ) stones, or rajwadi-style designs.

They refer to the same bridal bangle set. “Chooda” is the traditional Punjabi term, while “chura” is a more commonly used spelling online. Both are used interchangeably when referring to bridal chura worn during weddings.

Start by measuring the widest part of your hand (around the knuckles), as this determines whether the chura will slide on comfortably. Bridal chura is usually labelled in standard bangle sizes like 2.4, 2.6, or 2.8, and this refers to the front portion of the set near the wrist.

In many full chura sets, the bangles are designed to gradually increase in size as they move up the forearm. This allows the stack to sit more naturally and comfortably as the arm becomes wider from wrist to elbow. Because of this structure, it’s better to avoid a tight fit — choosing the correct base size, or slightly larger if you’re between sizes, usually works best for long wear.

Start by looking at how much of your forearm is visible with your outfit. Full bridal chura stacks create a strong traditional presence, especially with sleeveless or short-sleeve blouses. If your outfit has longer sleeves or heavy embroidery near the wrists, a slightly shorter or balanced stack works better to avoid visual crowding. The goal is to let the chura stand out without competing with your outfit.

The core chura bangles are lightweight (acrylic-based or plastic), so they’re generally comfortable even for extended wear. The weight mainly comes from any added decorative bangles or accessories. If you’re planning to wear the chura across multiple events, choosing a balanced set with fewer heavy elements can make a noticeable difference in comfort without affecting the overall look.

There isn’t a fixed timeframe. In many Punjabi traditions, brides wear the chura for around 40 days, but this can vary depending on family customs, rituals, and personal comfort. It’s best understood as a cultural practice rather than a strict rule, so the duration can differ from one bride to another.

If you plan to wear it continuously for an extended period without removing it, it’s worth choosing a simpler chura set with fewer heavy or decorative bangles. A more balanced stack tends to feel easier for daily wear while still maintaining the overall bridal look.

Bridal chura is meant to be comfortable for extended wear, especially once it is properly in place. In newer chura designs, including the sets we offer, the main red or ivory bangles are finished with a smoother, rounded inner surface so they feel softer against the skin and sit more comfortably on the arm.

While putting the chura on, you may still feel slight pressure as the bangles pass over the knuckles, particularly if the fit is more fitted. This is normal and usually temporary.

Some sets also include additional alloy-based bangles, such as kundan or American Diamond styles. These are made differently and may have a more defined inner edge, so a slight variation in feel across the full stack is natural.
